I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of summer 1991 in Lake Placid with the Wheeler family as Chip and Weston's summer nanny. From looking at the photos and reading about Chip's life, I can tell that Chip brought joy and smiles to the lives of many people throughout his life. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Despite the sun flooding in making it hard not to squint, I could see your smile start from the beginning of your end of the hallway. As we approached each other, our smiles grew so huge as if there was an involuntary competition of who could smile biggest. You were my friend. Without saying a word, your smile spoke volumes to me. If you’ve walked down the Northwood Hallway…it’s not a long walk. It’s bright, it’s hardwood, it’s beautiful and it’s loud. For an insecure gal like myself, one can have a lot of feelings from one end to the other. When I’d see you, Chip…all those insecurities floated away. When I close my eyes and picture you, you’re still the teenager walking towards me…I still feel the exact feeling of comfort and friendship that I felt 25 years ago. Fast forward…Saranac Inn..golf tournaments I feel I have no business organizing….there it is. Your smile. You’re encouragement. While I have a hunch from a lot of the comments I have been reading, you’ve had the same impact on all of the friends you have made, I only pray you know just how much of an impression you leave with everyone. Especially me. After so many years, to be able to still feel your smile and the comfort that came in tow…..you were clearly a very special person. Exceptional really. If angels do walk our earth…you were one of them. Cheers, Chip. I am so grateful and blessed to have called you my friend.

My condolences to Mirra and entire family. I am so sorry for your loss. Chip was a dear friend. As a former bartender, wherever I was working, he would walk up to the bar with that big smile on his face, raise his arm and give me a big hi five. We would laugh. We still kept in touch on holidays and birthdays which meant a lot to me. He always brightened my day. He will be greatly missed and I will cherish the memories.

Heartfelt words are just not enough! Chip was a student of mine at Northwood School. We met again years later when he became the superintendent of the Saranac Inn Golf Course because I live in the woods next to it. I would drive past the golf course and honk and wave at Chip riding on a big mower wearing his signature straw hat! Once in a while we would stop and chat. Fly high Chip!

Chip Wheeler was a gregarious, friendly and well-liked young man. He also happened to be a championship-level golfer competing in numerous local and state events. Following his dad in graduating from Northwood School, Chip worked hard at his studies and was respected by students and faculty alike. It is no surprise that with his demeanor and work ethic he became a successful man in the golf industry. He will be sorely missed.
