Obituary of Forrest Cumby Walton
Please share a memory of Forrest to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Forrest Cumby Walton, 96, died March 15, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Forrest was born in Jay, NY, September 28, 1925, the son of Wallace and Katherine (Cumby) Walton, the family moved to Lake Placid shortly after.
Like his father, Forrest was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting,
fishing, trapping and camping. He truly loved being out in nature.
A true Renaissance man, he loved reading and learning new things from
art, philosophy and all things technical. Indeed, you never left a
conversation with Pop, without learning something new.
Forrest graduated from Lake Placid High School, after high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WWII.
After returning to Lake Placid, he married Ruth Whittemore on January
10, 1948. They had 6 children, David, Wendy, Donald, Michele, Cindy and
Scott. Also, there were 18 grandchildren and numerous
great-grandchildren.
After his retirement from Lamb Lumber, Forrest kept busy doing the things
he loved, reading, spending time outdoors and at camp and being with his
family. Years later he would fulfill his lifelong dream and work as a
conductor and engineer on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad.
There is not enough space, or words to encompass the man that Forrest
was and what he meant to those that knew and loved him. A father, a friend
and a mentor, his wisdom and wicked sense of humor will be sorely
missed.
Poppy, you may be gone, but you will never be forgotten. Walk in peace,
until we meet again.
